The CNC community is nothing like 3D printing. If I had a dollar for every CNC guy that was asking how to monetize his designs, I'd have enough to buy a pre-built unit instead of building it myself. God, how I wish there was a CNC Thingiverse.
And things like the a 3d printer or laser cutter or cnc router would just be one tool that could be used to make some of the pieces. For example, the book scanners I make use T-slot construction, lasercut metal plates, CNC routed plastic plates, waterjet G-10/FR4 plates, 3D printed end caps, CNC-ground glass panes, acrylic painted mirrors, etc. And things like the a 3d printer or laser cutter or cnc router would just be one tool that could be used to make some of the pieces. Searched the web and there seems to be a few shotty websites that offer free gcode samples but nothing close to what Thingiverse has. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Also, many 3D printer slicer programs are free and you can download or create many models (thingiverse) and have them output fairly generic grbl g-code. Depends if you are trying to prove out a particular geometry and how you interpret it, or if you are attempting to prove out particular gcode commands.
A CNC milling or cutting machine is primary design consideration is rigidity, which usually means being heavier. With a 3D printer speed and smoothness of motion are the top concerns, which necessitates being lighter.
